After two successive years of celebrating the Sambuokan Festival virtually – due to the coronavirus disease, 2019 (COVID-19) – the City of Mati finally celebrated the festivity face to face this year.
During the Indak Sayaw Sambuokan, one of the highlights of the celebration, a total of 335,000 cash prize was given to the participants of the street dancing.
Declared the overall champion was the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy. For its feat, it went home with a trophy and a cash prize of P100,000.
Closing trailing was Matiao National High School, which was declared first runner-up, earning the school P75,000 plus trophy.
Getting the cash prize of P60,000 and the trophy as second runner-up was Mati National Comprehensive High School.
The third and fourth runner-ups, receiving P50,000 each with a trophy, were the City of Mati National High School and Mati Doctor’s Academy, respectively.
This is the 22 nd year of Sambuokan Festival and the second Abunda Festival. The theme was: “Mag SAMBUOKAN ta sa maABUNDA ug MAGANAHAY sa siyudad sa Mati.”
Mati is the only city and capital of the province of Davao Oriental. The current mayor is Michelle Marie Denise N. Rabat.
