Toni Gonzaga to star on the PH remake of ‘My Sassy Girl.’

Manila, Philippines — The Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga will play the 2001’s hit Korean movie’s titular role, “My Sassy Girl.” 

It was announced on Wednesday, January 20, through the social media page of Tincan Films (@tincanfilmsph), Gonzaga’s own film outfit in collaboration with Soriano; it was announced the same day of the actress 37th birthday.  

“In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, this year we will relive the classic Korean RomCom with its Philippine adaptation. On her birthday, we are proud to announce Toni Gonzaga is Philippines’ My Sassy Girl #MySassyGirlPH”, stated on the Instagram post.

There was also teaser still shots included in the post, giving the public first glimpses of Toni Gonzaga. 

My Sassy Girl was a 2001 film starring Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun and became Korea’s highest-grossing comedy of all time. A story of a college student who meets a drunk woman near a train rail and rescues her. With that, their odd bond begins.

This was the first of the “My Sassy Girl” trilogy by director/screenwriter Kwak Jae Young. 

After the announcement was made, Gonzaga’s fan immediately shows their different insights and reactions. Some even of her family showed their full support to the actress.

On the same post from the Instagram post of Tincam Films, Alex Gonzaga expressed her support for her sister and wrote in the comment section that she was the “Perfect choice!!” for the said role.

Meanwhile, Paul Soriano, Toni Gonzaga’s husband, commented on the post and greeted her with a happy birthday by posting a photo of Gonzaga’s upcoming film. 

Gonzaga’s screen partner in “My Sassy Girl,” has yet to be announced, but Filipinos speculated that actor Pepe Herrera would portray it. 

The film’s release date and venues have yet to be disclosed too.
