Landers Superstore fire Quezon City broke out before dawn on Wednesday, prompting authorities to raise the alarm level and impose traffic restrictions in Fairview.
A massive fire broke out at a Landers Superstore branch in Fairview, Quezon City early Wednesday morning, prompting authorities to raise the alarm level and forcing nearby residents and motorists to take precautionary measures. The blaze, which started before dawn, caused significant damage to the commercial establishment and led to temporary road closures as firefighters worked to contain the flames.
According to initial reports from the Quezon City Fire District, the fire erupted at the Landers Superstore located along the corner of Quirino Highway and Belfast Avenue in Barangay Pasong Putik. Thick black smoke was seen billowing into the air as the fire rapidly spread within the structure, prompting officials to escalate the situation to a fifth alarm due to the intensity of the blaze and the volume of combustible materials inside the store.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after the fire was reported at around 4 a.m. and immediately initiated suppression operations. Authorities said the store, which houses a mix of grocery items, department store goods, and storage areas, made firefighting efforts challenging as the fire spread quickly through various sections of the building. At the height of operations, dozens of fire trucks from Quezon City and neighboring areas were deployed to help prevent the flames from reaching nearby structures.
Residents living close to the area described hearing loud sounds and seeing flames intensify within minutes. Some were advised to evacuate temporarily due to heavy smoke, while others were told to remain indoors and close windows as a safety precaution. Traffic along Quirino Highway was also affected as authorities restricted access to allow fire trucks and emergency personnel to move freely.
Fire investigators said that nearly 80 percent of the one-story building, which includes a basement area, was affected by the fire. Firefighters were required to use self-contained breathing apparatuses to safely enter the structure because of thick smoke and reduced visibility inside the building. As of this writing, no injuries or fatalities have been reported, although authorities continue to assess the situation.
Officials emphasized that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Investigators are expected to conduct a thorough inspection once the area is declared safe and cooling operations are completed. Damage estimates have yet to be released, but the losses are expected to be substantial given the scale of the fire and the types of goods stored inside the establishment.
Authorities also reminded business owners and the public of the importance of fire safety measures, particularly in large commercial spaces. They urged establishments to regularly inspect electrical systems and ensure that fire suppression equipment is properly maintained.
