A 17-year-old Filipino -American singer and songwriter, Olivia Rodrigo, is currently making waves as her official debut single ‘Drivers License’ had taken the crowd by storm when she dropped it on Friday, January 8, 2021.
Her debut single had been a history- breaking as it had made many achievements in such a small span of time since it was released to the public.
The song ‘Drivers License’ broke the record in Spotify for most streams in a day for a non-holiday song with over 15.17 million global streams last January 11 (the song continued to beat its own record with over 17.01 million streams the following day).
In addition to the song’s success, it also debuted at the No. 1 spot on the Official U.K. Singles Chart on Friday, January 15, with 95,000 chart sales, including 10.9 million streams across the week. “Drivers License” also topped Spotify’s Global and U.S. Song Debut charts and reaching nearly 30 million views on YouTube since premiering last January 8, 2021.
The dramatic pop tune is truly the most streamed and biggest song in the world as of now. It quickly spread to almost all media platforms, including the Tiktok app. As it was released on January 8, the audience got struck with its heartbreaking lyrics, “And I just can’t imagine / How you could be so okay now that I’m gone / Guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me / ‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street.” With that, Tiktok users started to share their own experiences wherein they can connect with the lyrics, and some did a cover with their own twist that eventually ends up trending on the said app.
