Pasay gold vlogger robbery shocked authorities after a content creator and three companions were held up by an armed group in Pasay City, losing more than ₱6 million worth of jewelry and cash.
According to a report aired on Unang Balita on Friday, the incident unfolded past 10 p.m. Wednesday, when two sport utility vehicles stopped along Theron Street in Barangay 792, Santa Ana, Manila. CCTV footage showed a white SUV pulling over, followed shortly by unusual movements that later raised suspicion among residents.
Moments later, the driver and another male passenger exited the white SUV, carrying what appeared to be a long object wrapped in cloth. When the two failed to return after several minutes, traffic began to build up in the area, prompting barangay officials to investigate.
Barangay personnel said a couple later reported seeing the two men board a black SUV that fled the scene. Upon inspection, officials found red cable ties on the ground and slippers left near the driver’s seat—signs suggesting a violent crime had taken place.
“Kita namin may cable tie at singles SA look NG Malayan. Mustang nation Malaga ‘young nag-report SA main,” said Barangay Kagawad Arman Perez of Barangay 792, Manila.
Authorities from the Manila Police District and the Pasty City Police Station were immediately alerted. Police later confirmed that the white SUV had been hijacked earlier in Barangay 190, Pasty City, where the victims were initially blocked by armed suspects.
Police said there were four victims inside the vehicle at the time, including a 24-year-old content creator who earns a living by trading gold jewelry.
“The suspects blocked the victims’ vehicle. The driver and front passenger managed to escape, leaving two victims at the back who were taken hostage,” said Pasty City Police chief Police Colonel Joselito De Sesto.
The two victims who escaped quickly sought help from authorities, prompting police to launch a dragnet operation. Using the vehicle’s GPS tracking system, police traced the movement of the hijacked SUV, which was driven around Metro Manila before reaching Santa Ana.
Police said the two remaining victims later found an opportunity to escape while the suspects were attempting to transfer them to another vehicle.
“Expansion nil ang Hindi NASA-lock ang pinto, kaya down Na silk turnkeys,” De Sesto said, adding that the victims were legitimate gold traders carrying jewelry for business transactions.
Despite the escape, the suspects managed to flee with jewelry and cash worth more than ₱6 million.
Just hours later, police tracked down the suspects to a resort in Barangay Pan sol, Catawba City, Laguna. A 22-year-old man believed to be the driver of the black SUV was arrested. Authorities recovered several pieces of jewelry, cash, and a grenade from his possession.
CCTV footage from the resort allegedly showed the suspects eating together and dividing the stolen items. However, several other suspects had already fled before police arrived.
Investigators said six of the 10 suspects have been positively identified. Alarmingly, two of them were confirmed to be an SK chairman and an SK ATAWAD from a barangay in Pasty City.
Police also revealed that some of the suspects were personally known to the victims, suggesting that the crime may have been premeditated.
Authorities said the group is believed to be behind at least four other similar robbery incidents in different provinces.
When asked for comment, the arrested suspect declined to speak, saying he would explain his side in court.
The suspects are facing multiple charges, including robbery, violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and illegal possession of explosives.
Police said the investigation is ongoing as they work to arrest the remaining suspects and determine the full extent of the group’s operations.
