Governor Raul Mabanglo speaks on stage during the Bulawan Festival marking the Davao de Oro 28th Founding Anniversary

The Davao de Oro 28th Founding Anniversary was celebrated during the final day of the Bulawan Festival, marking a significant milestone for the province.

The last day of this year’s Bulawan Festival in Davao de Oro ended with the celebration of the province’s 28th founding anniversary. This was emphasized by Governor Raul Mabanglo in his speech which was delivered in Bisaya.

“Today, we gather to celebrate a significant occasion in our beloved province — the 28th anniversary of the establishment of our province, Davao de Oro! Moreover, today, we reflect on who we are and what we represent as a people,” he said.

Since it was also the culmination of the annual Bulawan Festival, Gov. Mabanglo also stressed the spirit of the festivity. He said that when people think of “bulawan,” they may think of gold. But the actual treasures of the province are its people.

“For many years, our province has been recognized for the gold found in the mountains and rivers. However, I would like to remind everyone: the true gold of our province is not what lies beneath the earth. The real gold is the people of Davao de Oro!”

The governor mentioned some of these people. “You, the residents who safeguard and nurture our barangays,” he said. “You, the farmers who toil in both heat and rain to ensure that every family has food. You, the faithful who guide the moral and spiritual lives of the community. You, the educators who shape the minds and dreams of the youth.”

Gov. Mabanglo also mentioned the health workers (“who serve with dedication and compassion), the youth and women (“who are consistently involved in the development of the community”), and the laborers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and every ordinary citizen (“who contributes their strength and time for the progress of the province”).

He also paid tributes to the indigenous people’s group. “Let us not forget our roots,” he pointed out. “The culture and wisdom of our Lumad brothers and sisters — Mandaya, Mansaka, Manobo, Dibabawon, Mangguwangan, and Cagan.

“They remind us that true progress is not measured by the economy or infrastructure but by respecting culture, community, and the environment,” he added.

In its 28 years of existence, the province faced numerous challenges.

“Yet, in every trial, our people have demonstrated courage, unity, and hope,” said Gov. Mabanglo, who is an engineer by profession. “Because of this, the development of our province continues. Thus, our celebration today is not merely a festivity of colors, dances, and culture; it is a testament to the strong support and love of the people of Davao de Oro.”

And that, to Gov. Mabanglo, is the true essence of the Bulawan Festival.

“This gathering today is not just for the past,” he said. “It serves as a reminder that we must look to the future with renewed hope. The future of our province cannot be measured by the abundance of gold in the mountains.

“The future of our Province lies within its people. If we continue to help one another, if we continue to believe in each other, and if we continue to serve for the welfare of all, nothing can hinder the progress of Davao de Oro!”
