Singer Olivia Rodrigo’s runaway hit single “Drivers License” has become the first song to reach one billion global streams in 2021.
According to a Billboard report on Thursday, MRC Data show that the 17-year old’s hit debut single, which spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart, climbed past the 1 billion mark in the week ending March 25.
That week, the song racked up 54.42 million global on-demand audio and video streams, bringing its cumulative total to 1.033 billion.
“Drivers License” continues to lead 2021 as the year’s most-streamed song globally. The No. 2 most-streamed track of the year is BTS’ “Dynamite” with 685.98 million.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” also remains the biggest song at hot adult contemporary.
The song was released on January 8 and became an instant hit on any chart.

Before this feat, the “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” actress also made headlines after “Drivers License” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and topped the Billboard Global Excluding U.S. chart for nine weeks.
In the 63-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, less than 50 other songs had debuted at No. 1, which puts Olivia and “Drivers License” along the ranks of Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” Whitney Houston’s “Exhale (Shoop Shoop),” Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan,” and Ariana Grande’s “Positions.”
Last Thursday, Olivia released her new single, “Déjà Vu.” She is set to drop her debut album this May 21.
