DOST LGU Sulop disaster resilience efforts are gaining ground as the Department of Science and Technology deploys smart technology in Davao del Sur.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Davao Region, through its Smart and Sustainable Communities (SSC) Program, has deployed an Automated Rain Gauge (ARG) in Brgy. Kiblagon, Sulop, Davao del Sur. This “Smart Citizen” entry point project aims to strengthen local disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) by providing high-precision, real-time rainfall data. The intervention marks a significant step toward transforming Sulop into a data-driven, resilient municipality, ensuring that science-based solutions are at the forefront of local governance.

This collaborative effort highlights the strong partnership between national and local government units. The project was made possible through funding from DOST Davao Region, complemented by a counterpart fund from LGU Sulop. Under the monitoring of DOST Davao del Sur, the deployment of this DRRM-related technology demonstrates a shared commitment to utilizing innovation for the safety and well-being of the community.

The newly installed ARG serves as a critical early warning system, specifically designed to notify lowland communities of potential flooding risks during heavy downpours. Monitoring precipitation levels from the highland vantage of Brgy. Kiblagon allows the technology to provide LGU Sulop with the essential data needed for rapid disaster response. These real-time insights are crucial for informed decision-making, enabling the LGU to issue timely advisories that can save lives and protect properties.

As the municipality continues to adopt smart and sustainable practices, this project stands as a testament to how modern tools can build a more secure and disaster-ready future for all citizens.
