Free MRT-3 and LRT-2 rides will let children aged 17 and below travel without paying fares on Wednesday, November 4, during two designated periods: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The initiative is part of the observance of National Children’s Month, according to announcements from the railway operators.

Children and teenagers aged 17 and below can enjoy free rides on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) on Wednesday, November 4, as part of the country’s celebration of National Children’s Month.

The free ride initiative will be available during two designated time periods: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to separate announcements from the railway operators.

The program aims to recognize the importance of children and support efforts to promote their rights and welfare.

Free Train Rides Available During Morning and Evening Hours

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), which operates LRT-2, confirmed that children below 18 years old can avail themselves of free rides at all LRT-2 stations on November 4.

The initiative is being conducted in support of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), an agency under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Meanwhile, MRT-3 is also participating in the initiative, allowing eligible young passengers to travel without paying fares during the same morning and evening schedules.

Passengers are reminded that the free ride offer is limited to the announced hours. Regular railway station rules and security procedures will remain in effect throughout the program.

For LRT-2 passengers, priority boarding areas will continue to be reserved for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.

Part of the 34th National Children’s Month Celebration

The free ride initiative is among the activities marking the 34th National Children’s Month in the Philippines.

Observed every November, National Children’s Month aims to raise awareness about children’s rights, welfare, protection, and development.

The celebration is anchored in Republic Act No. 10661, also known as the National Children’s Month Act, which recognizes November as a period dedicated to promoting the importance of children’s rights and well-being.

This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Manindigan! Tumugon at Kumalinga: Sa Batang Handa, Mas Ligtas ang Bansa.”

The theme highlights the importance of standing up for children, responding to their needs, and providing proper care and protection, particularly during emergencies and disasters.

What Parents and Young Passengers Should Know

Parents and guardians planning to use the free ride program can consider the following schedules:

  • Eligible passengers: Children aged 17 and below
  • Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026
  • Morning schedule: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Evening schedule: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Participating train lines: MRT-3 and LRT-2

Passengers should follow instructions from station personnel and observe existing safety and security protocols when entering train stations.

The initiative provides families with an opportunity to save on transportation expenses while recognizing the importance of children’s rights and welfare during National Children’s Month.
