It is that season again when conversations about love begin, as February has now come. Valentine’s Day love stories have long shaped how we understand romance and devotion.

It is that season again when conversations about love begin, as February has now come. Before long, February 14 will arrive, signifying Valentine’s Day.

William Shakespeare, regarded as the Father of English literature, references Saint Valentine’s Day in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and in Hamlet, where he hints at the belief that if two unmarried individuals encounter each other on the morning of Saint Valentine’s Day, they are likely to marry. He penned:

“Tomorrow is Saint Valentine’s day,
All in the morning bedtime,
And I a maid at your window,
To be your Valentine.”

Meanwhile, the tender love story of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet continues to enchant the imaginations of many. The enduring and selfless devotion of Cyrano de Bergerac for Roxanne – immortalized in the play by Edmond Rostand – brings tears to the eyes of numerous women.

Jane Eyre, ultimately achieving fulfillment in her love for Rochester, sends chills down the spines of readers. The age disparity between the protagonists in the moving novel, The Rotary, does not dissuade women in the least. Instead, society embraces the idea that “love conquers all.”

Skeptics, conversely, contend that these extraordinary romances are merely products of imagination, primarily serving to satisfy our escapist inclinations. While they may be romantic narratives, they are frequently met with skepticism.

Hollywood films have also enshrined tales of love. However, fiction encompasses more than mere real-life occurrences. Love is an emotion that must be genuinely felt, rather than merely envisioned; it should be experienced instead of just fantasized.
