MANILA, Philippines — The Sara Duterte Hong Kong trip scheduled for November 6 to 8, 2026, will include engagements with members of the Filipino community, according to the Office of the Vice President (OVP). The visit comes just days before the Senate resumes proceedings on the impeachment case against the vice president on November 9.

The three-day visit comes ahead of the scheduled resumption of her Senate impeachment trial on November 9.

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) said Duterte would participate in various activities during her stay. Her office also clarified that she would shoulder the expenses using personal funds, with no government money, resources, or facilities used for the trip.

Duterte also secured the necessary travel authorization, including permission from Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98 through an order dated November 3, according to reports.

Filipino Community Engagement in Hong Kong

One of Duterte’s scheduled activities is an event organized by the Filipino community in Hong Kong.

The city is home to a large population of overseas Filipino workers, particularly those employed in domestic services and other industries.

However, the OVP has not released a complete itinerary detailing the event’s venue, organizers, or other expected participants.

Impeachment Trial to Resume November 9

Duterte’s scheduled return to the Philippines comes one day before her impeachment trial resumes at the Senate.

The proceedings are expected to enter the defense presentation stage after the prosecution completed its presentation of evidence. Three of the original four impeachment articles were withdrawn, leaving one remaining article for the Senate impeachment court to consider.

The remaining charge involves allegations concerning unexplained wealth, asset declarations, and business interests.

The prosecution has presented financial records and witness testimony to support its allegations. Duterte’s defense team, meanwhile, has challenged aspects of the evidence and is preparing to present its own witnesses and documents.

The Senate impeachment court will evaluate the evidence from both sides before determining the outcome of the proceedings.

Separate Developments

Although Duterte’s Hong Kong visit takes place immediately before the impeachment hearings resume, no publicly established evidence indicates that the trip is connected to the proceedings.

The OVP has described the visit as a series of scheduled engagements and maintained that it will be privately funded.

The November 9 hearing is expected to mark another significant stage in the impeachment proceedings against the vice president.
